Week 10: Charity and Voluntourism
In our last week, we explore the supremacy of charity and voluntourism. We address the irony of white saviors that arrive in capes to rescue, while their governments are often directly implicated in the exploitation of the region. We move from an individual-charity perspective to one that analyzes collusion and moves toward dismantling international systems of oppression.
These materials are designed for small group work with 1 hour of real-time conversation. Folks do individual reading, watching and writing before having a conversation with their group.
